This medicine acts on the proton pump, which is the final step in gastric acid secretion, and suppresses gastric acid secretion. It also enhances the antibacterial action of antibiotics by suppressing gastric acid secretion and increasing intragastric pH.
It is usually used to treat gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, suppression of recurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcer when nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are administered, and suppression of recurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcer when low-dose aspirin is administered.It is also used to assist in eradicating Helicobacter pylori in gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, gastric MALT lymphoma, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, stomach after endoscopic treatment for early gastric cancer, and Helicobacter pylori-infected gastritis.
